Event Overview

Due to the demand in places for our first event, Be Defiant is proud to announce our next competition, a mix sex pairs throwdown on 10th and 11th September 2022. We want to celebrate everything we love about functional fitness and more specifically how being active positively affects our mental health. There will be a range of vendors and event partners on site for the event for you to browse between workouts. Be Defiant Pairs will be structured to allow every one of any level to take part and test themselves both physically and mentally by splitting the weekend into two days. Saturday the 10th September 2022 will be Scaled and Sunday the 11th September 2022 will be RX.

 

Physical Challenge

Be Defiant Pairs will be hosted at CrossFit Derby which is a well-established 10 year CrossFit Affiliate making it the perfect venue for our event number two. CrossFit Derby’s Head Coach Luke Townsend will be programming events to test your mental and physical fortitude using classic CrossFit inspired formatting. A range of equipment will be used to provide a well-rounded test which will include but is not limited to Concept 2 Rowers, Air Bikes, Dumbbells, Kettlebells, Plyometric Boxes, Gymnastics Rig and of course the mighty Barbell.

Which category should you enter? Don’t worry, we have you covered! Prior to the competition a series of workouts will be released for pairs to complete and submit. Your scores from these workouts will determine your category and therefore the day you compete to ensure athletes of similar abilities will be competing against each other. Movement demonstrations and standards will be given on the day.

 

Our Goal

Our goals for this event are to make sure that each athlete is challenged while having a fantastic time in a supportive and encouraging environment, along with showing how being active positively affects our mental health. Whether you are entering Be Defiant Pairs as your first competition or you are a seasoned athlete we want to ensure that a well-rounded test of fitness along with a day of fun and community is had by everyone.

Entry to Be Defiant Pairs will be £65 per pair - Places are limited to 28 pairs each day so make sure that you don’t miss out and book your spot!

Workout 1
Score: Reps 10 minute time cap

10 Minute EMOM (You Go I Go format)
In a 60 second window perform 8 burpees over the bar and in the remaining time max repetitions of ground to overhead. Until a total of 60 ground to overhead are completed.

Burpees over the bar must be a two footed take off.

Only 1 partner can be working per minute, you cannot swap during the minute.

Your score will be either the time taken to complete the 60 ground to overhead or the total reps of ground to overhead achieved within the 10 minutes.

8 Minute EMOM (You Go I Go format)
In a 60 second window complete a complex of 5 touch and go squat cleans and 1 squat snatch.

The squat cleans must be unbroken but you can rest before the squat snatch as needed. All 6 lifts must be successfully completed in the minute for the attempt to count.

Only 1 partner can be working per minute, you cannot swap during the minute.

Your score will be the weight successfully lifted each minute totalled across the entire workout.

If any lift within the complex is missed you will have to redo the entire complex. You can attempt the complex as many times as you wish within the minute.

Weight can be added to the barbell for each successful completion of the complex. If you fail a weight you CANNOT go back down in weight.

Thrusters
Pull Ups

The reps can be split however you like, but there is a twist..

Whilst one partner is performing thrusters the other partner must perform a barbell overhead hold. If the partner performing the overhead hold breaks, the partner performing thrusters must also break and cannot resume until their partner restarts their overhead hold.

Similarly whilst one partner performs pull ups the other partner must perform a dead hang. If the partner performing the dead hang breaks, the partner performing pull ups must also break and cannot resume until their partner restarts their dead hang.

Jumping pull-ups are permitted for scaled athletes.
